Ever since I interned with the Utah chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation I have loved being involved in any way that I can. Most recently I've been involved as an official wish granter for the organization.
Last week I had the unique opportunity to meet with my very first wish family and share the wishing experience with them as their little boy declared his one true wish to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Make-A-Wish process, once a child has declared their wish it usually takes about a week or two before they find out that their wish will be granted. This last Saturday my sister, my fellow wish granter Vicky and I had the fun job of going to our wish kids house to tell him that his wish is going to come true.
Vicky found a pizza place willing to make a Mickey Mouse shaped pizza and I got Shauna to dress up as Minnie to deliver it.
There is nothing that can compare to the excitement, happiness and joy that family had when they found out that Peyton's wish is going to be granted. His face just lit up as soon as he heard the words "Your wish to meet Mickey Mouse is coming true". (I seriously have THE best volunteer job in the world!) We were all smiling from ear to ear with happiness the whole time we were there.
One of my favorite things Peyton said was when he opened the pizza box and yelled, "I wish for more pizzas!" The poor little guy probably thinks now that whatever he wishes for will come true.
After all was said and done and Shauna and I were driving away I couldn't help but think how much this little boy's attitude can apply in our own lives. If you had the assurance that no matter what you wanted in life you would get it - what would you wish for?
Would you wish yourself a dream job?
Would you wish for more fun adventures?
What about that unforgotten dream of pursuing a favorite passion?
Would you do things differently?
I'm here to tell you that no matter what it is - it's achievable, it's do-able and you can make it happen. The only thing standing in the way of where you are now and what you want for yourself in the future is your doubts and fear of failure.
We can all learn a lesson from Peyton and his desire to wish for more pizzas. It's this - no matter what it is, if we want it we CAN make it happen. It may take hours of hard work, months of dedicated persistence and many times of falling down to figure it out.
But you know what my friends - we can make anything a reality. We must dare to dream. Dare to push ourselves and dare to make the seemingly impossible possible.

Oh my heck, I am so sad I didn't get to go. Shauna made me proud though. Amy, you are one lucky lady to get to be a part of amazing things like that. I am so jealous.
